With our ever increasing range of paper cups we’ve also picked up several new types of sip through lids on the way, as a result there is quite a large range of lids available on our store. At a glance, this can appear somewhat overwhelming if you’re just trying to buy the correct lid for your cups.
The safest way to ensure you buy the correct lid is to find the paper cups on our site and look in the “related items”, we always list the appropriate lid for that product as a related item to make them easier to find.
In terms of types of lid, we offer the following:
- 4oz – 63mm rim diameter
Designed to fit 4oz espresso cups (plastic and compostable options)
- 6oz – 73mm rim diameter
Fits only the 6oz flat white paper cups (plastic)

These are biodegradable and can be composted too.

Initially when biodegradable paper cups were first introduced into the UK they arrived in the most common variety, the single wall paper cup. This was the same as the regular recyclable cup but with a PLA lining instead of a PE (plastic) lining.
As biodegradability has become an exponentially important aspect of disposables, demand has increased sharply. As such the range of cup types available for customers who require a biodegradable paper cup is greater than ever.
We stock the following types of biodegradable cups:
- Single wall “Ingeo” PLA paper cups
- Double wall “Ingeo” PLA paper cups
- Insulated ripple wall “Ingeo” PLA paper cups
- Bamboo compostable paper cups
- Triple layer “Ultimate” bamboo compostable paper cups
Our range now covers all the common cup types available, meaning there’s a biodegradable alternative to any of our regular ranges of disposable cups. The different levels of insulation work the exact same way as our non-biodegradable cups:
- Single wall (including bamboo): The most popular variety, lowest cost per unit but only basic heat insulation.
- Double Wall: An extra layer of insulation, much better heat retention and more comfortable to hold. Smooth outer wall.
- Insulated Ripple: The best level of heat insulation has a tactile “rippled” outer which further improves insulation.
- Triple Layer “ultimate” bamboo: The same high level of insulation as the ripple cups, but with a smooth outer wall.

Any industry that uses or depends on disposables will have experienced a turbulent couple of years, mainly following the huge global focus on sustainability and single use plastics / disposables etc. A lot of media attention has centered around franchised coffee chains as they’re a very visible user of disposable products, namely disposable paper coffee cups.
Various coffee chains, such as Boston Tea Party for example, have sought to ban single use paper cups from their business entirely. Others have vouched to replace traditional plastic lined paper cups with biodegradable or compostable options in order to tick that all-important environmentally aware box. We’ve also seen the rise of schemes designed to recycle the plastic lined paper cups using a specific process to separate the plastic content first.
Initially there was a lot of skepticism of such schemes, especially in relation to how they’d affect the core business, and in turn, profitability. In reality however the takeaway coffee industry has continued to flourish and indeed grow. The UK market has doubled in size (£bn) between 2010 and 2018 and is forcasted to grow at an average of 6.8% per annum for next 6 years.
Some industry leaders have actually commented on how aligning themselves with current environmental concerns and trends has actually been instrumental to their growth. Quite the opposite of what analysts originally predicted. Commercial valuations specialists Christie & Co recently published an interesting roundup of opinions of their blog at: https://www.christie.com/news-resources/blogs/june-2019/propel-coffee-conference-2019-highlights-innovatio/?viewmode=0
UK consumers drink 3.3kg of coffee per head / per year (2015), however this is still behind USA and developed European competitors (4.5 – 6.5kg). Market trends and buying patterns suggest that the coffee to go market will continue to grow, and that it will simply learn to adapt in terms of reliance on disposables. This will be either through new compostable coatings or better collection, sortation and recycling facilities.
You may have noticed that we’ve received launched a brand new range of Bamboo coffee cups, available as either a standard single-wall cup or an insulated “ultimate” coffee cup. We’ve had lots of questions about this new range of cups, the most obvious asking why the sudden change to Bamboo when disposable cups have been traditionally made from paper for so long (originally developed in 1907 as the “Dixie Cup”.
The benefits of using Bamboo as a replacement for virgin grade paperboard are numerous. Although we only source paperboard from renewable and sustainable sources, there’s no getting away from the fact that the raw material comes from forestry. Since 2018 there has been a huge focus for the developed world being as ecologically responsible as possible. Trees are an important part of our ecosystem; however Bamboo can actually be used as an alternative raw material.
Bamboo is an amazingly fast growing grass; it requires no fertilizer and regenerates from its own roots. Compared with sustainable forestry of quick growing Birchwood for example, Bamboo grows many times faster resulting in a much better yield.
Bamboo cups are fully compostable when made using the PLA (cornstarch) lining we use for our range of cups – this means they break down completely when sent to an appropriate facility. There are no plastics left behind and no contaminants. These have proved to be enormous benefits with the ever increasing focus on sustainability and waste management.
Both ranges of Bamboo cups carry a distinctive and vibrant print, samples of which are available on request. We also stock completely biodegradable / compostable plastic lids to fit these cups for a completely eco-friendly solution.

Brand new on our website today are our Bamboo “Ultimate Eco” paper cups, made from Bamboo instead of paperboard as the name suggests. These are a natural / rustic colour instead of the usual white; no bleaching process is used on the raw material, perfect for café’s with natural / earthy themes and branding.
Our “ultimate” range of cups is unique in that it uses a single size of lid for the 8, 12 and 16oz sizes. With other cup ranges the 8oz cups take a smaller lid to the 12 and 16oz sizes. A single lid means one less item to keep in stock and less spaces required front-of-house when used commercially.
As with most of our other biodegradable items, our “ultimate eco” Bamboo paper cups feature a PLA (cornstarch based) lining instead of a plastic polyethylene layer. This means that the cups are completely biodegradable and compostable, they feature no plastics.
Triple layer “ultimate” paper cups feature superb heat insulation; they’ll retain the warmth of your drink while also preventing the cup from becoming uncomfortable to hold.
Samples are available on request, you can find these items in our biodegradable paper cups category at: https://innsupplies.com/biodegradable/biodegradable-paper-cups
We’ve always supplied a small travel lid for our range of takeaway espresso cups, however these are made from PP (Polypropylene) plastic. With a sizable number of our customers moving to biodegradable alternatives we’re now stocking a biodegradable cPLA lid to fit these cups, as with the rest of our cup range. The cPLA lids are made from a cornstarch base, they’re completely biodegradable so a great match for our small 4oz biodegradable espresso cups.
Unlike many other 4oz plastic lids on the market, ours are a sip through traveler lid rather than a flat sealing lid. They’re designed for espresso consumption on the go.
You can find these listed in our sip through lids category and alongside the rest of our 4oz paper cups.
Fresh into our warehouse today are the new Bamboo compostable paper cups. As the name suggests these are made from Bamboo instead of paperboard, there are several notable advantages to this. The most obvious is that Bamboo is more easily renewable than the fast-growing birch used for traditional paper cups, this is due to the speed at which the plant grows. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet with a peak growth speed of 4cm an hour; this makes it the ultimate in sustainable raw material.
The cups themselves are a mixed design with 4 distinct but coordinated neutral prints; each pack contains a random selection of these.
As with the rest of our environmentally friendly biodegradable range of cups, these feature a PLA lining instead of the plastic PE coating used on traditional cups. This makes them a fantastic choice for customers wishing to switch to biodegradable / compostable disposables.
Samples are available on request; get in touch with our team for more information. You can find our bamboo paper cups on our site at: https://innsupplies.com/biodegradable/biodegradable-paper-cups
These were initially launched in 8 and 12oz sizes only, however due to their popularity we’ve added the larger 16oz size to the range also. Our range of biodegradable double wall paper cups use a PLA (polylactic acid) coating on the paper instead of the more common PE (Polyethylene) plastic coating, this means they are completely biodegradable
The large 16oz size accepts the same 90mm lid as the 12oz size, you can choose from our regular plastic lids or purchase one of the newer biodegradable cPLA lids for a completely eco-friendly solution to takeaway coffee.
You can find the 16oz double wall biodegradable cups here: https://innsupplies.com/biodegradable/biodegradable-paper-cups
We’ve expanded our range of plastic lids to include a Black version of the popular white biodegradable / compostable lids. These are made from the exact same cornstarch-based raw material as the white lids; this means they’re 100% biodegradable and compostable.
As so many of our items now have a biodegradable option it made sense to cater for customers who prefer a black coloured cup lid over the white version which we’ve been stocking for some time now. We’ve seen a huge surge in popularity of the compostable product lines we offer – especially biodegradable paper coffee cups. Many coffee shops and retail outlets have been phasing in the biodegradable PLA paper cups as they become available, the cPLA cornstarch lids sell alongside these to customers looking to move to biodegradable disposables.
These are available from stock straight away, you can find them in any of the paper cup categories on the site, or directly in the sip through coffee cup lids category:https://innsupplies.com/disposable/paper-cups/domed-sip-lids-for-paper-cups
As part of our new 2018 biodegradable range of cups, we’ve added an alternative to the popular brown ripple cups. This new Biodegradable version looks and feels, for all intents and purposes, the same as the regular brown insulated cups. The key difference (other than the INGEO biodegradable branding round the base) is that it has a PLA corn starch lining rather than the usual PE plastic inner lining, this means it is completely biodegradable and eco-friendly.
For maximum flexibility the cups have the same 80mm (8oz) and 90mm (12,16oz) rim diameters as the rest of our cup range. This means you can use the regular white or black lids if required, or use the compostable lids for a completely biodegradable solution.
For café’s and other commercial users the appearance has been kept intentionally similar to the regular brown ripple cups, this means making the switch to biodegradable items should seamlessly fit into any front of house environment.
Samples are available on request, please see our compostable paper cups section for more information: https://innsupplies.com/biodegradable/biodegradable-paper-cups
